Fields: Edit Channel: Circulation

The Mobile Channel Settings tab allows you to modify settings for certain circulation features available to individual libraries.

Channels > [click a channel name]

Institution ID

Specifies the code for the library as entered in BLUEcloud Central and in the ILS.

SIP2 Settings

You can use the SIP2 standard for implementing the self-check functionality in the app. SIP2 may return error messages that patrons can understand better than error messages returned by Web Services for Horizon and Symphony, which are intended for staff users.

Option Description

SIP2 Username

Specifies the login name required to log in to the SIP server.

SIP2 Password

Specifies the password required to log in to the SIP server.

SIP2 Location

Specifies the institution or branch code. This is required if the SIP location is different than the Institution ID specified above.

SIP2 Port

Specifies port number, if a location specific port is needed.

Self-check

Indicates whether and by what means a patron can check an item out and in through the BLUEcloud Mobile app. When this is enabled, patrons can select the Check In or Check Out functions in the app to check items out and in. For information about setting up self-check, see Setting up barcode self-check or Setting up RFID self-check.

You have these options:

Option Description

Checkout items

Enables the ability for patrons to check items out using the app. When Checkout items is enabled, you can specify the means by which the app identifies items. You have these options:

  • Scan items by—Specifies whether to scan items by barcode or RFID code.
    • Barcode—Uses the device's camera to scan the item's barcode in order to check it out.
    • RFID—Uses the device's Near Field Communication function to detect the item in order to check it out.

This option is only available if your library has had SirsiDynix enable RFID self-check scanning.

Checkin items

Enables the ability for patrons to check items in using the app. If this option is not visible, your library has not had SirsiDynix enable RFID self-check scanning.

When Checkin items is enabled, you can specify the means by which the app identifies items. You have these options:

  • Scan items by—Specifies whether to scan items by barcode or RFID code.
    • Barcode—Uses the device's camera to scan the item's barcode in order to check it in.
    • RFID—Uses the device's Near Field Communication function to detect the item in order to check it in.
  • Beacons—Indicates the beacons that have been set up to verify self-checkin for your library. The beacons that SirsiDynix sends you will have already been set up and should be in this list. Place the physical beacons near the self-check location or locations. The app does not allow patrons to check in an item if their device is not within range to detect a beacon in the list.
  • Add Beacon—Specifies the definition of a new beacon for use in checking in items through the BLUEcloud Mobile app.
    • Name—Specifies the name of the beacon (up to 200 characters) as it appears in the BLUEcloud Mobile app.

    • Description—Specifies the directions (up to 500 characters) to locate the self-check zone as it appears in the app.
    • Set—Specifies the mode in which the beacon should work. By default, this should be set to Mfr. Default (FDA5).
    • Major ID—Specifies a value that identifies the beacon. Your SirsiDynix representative provides your library with the Major and Minor number for each beacon.
    • Minor ID—Specifies a value that identifies the beacon. Your SirsiDynix representative provides your library with the Major and Minor number for each beacon.
    • Range—Specifies the maximum distance in meters from the beacon where the BLUEcloud Mobile app can scan RFID labels for self-check. You can set the range to be as small as one meter or as large as 100 meters.

Although the Range may be set to a small area (such as two meters), the app can detect the beacon beyond that range, which helps direct the user to where the self-check area is located.

Important: If you are using smaller range limits, you should avoid distances smaller than two meters. Because beacon distances are calculated using the strength of the Bluetooth signal, short distances can be inaccurate due to interference or objects blocking the signal. This normally is not a problem for larger distances.

The Range can be used to limit beacon ranges, which allows a beacon to be restricted to usage within a specific area of the Library. By default, the maximum is set to 100 meters.
